Why right-click? Left-click on the icon opens (normally) Thunar to show 
you the contents. You then can copy, move, delete, store ... things. 
When you are finished, with a right-click you can choose "Remove ..., 
and the icon will vanish, unless there is still something to store on 
the stick. But eventually the icon will vanish, and you can extract the 
stick.
The behaviour is similar with othe devices. Believe me, you'll get used 
to it.
