This is true as evidenced from the fact that the discussion here has
yielded little consensus as to layout. And as I said, the important
thing for a desktop environment is that it should be easy to make it
look as you would want to - not necessarily to do so by default.
Also, I find that the present layout gives a good impression of what I
CAN do.
