I recently proposed deprecating OroboROX in favour of xfwm4 on the
rox-users list, and one objection[1] was the use of MCS.

Some people like gconf, some like flat files (no daemon), some like MCS...
but everyone wants the same system across all their programs.

It would be good if we could write and compile programs without caring
which backend our users want to use. Elektra[2] and Uniconf[3] were two
projects that attempted to do that, and there are more listed at
freedesktop.org[4].

Xfce is in a good position to make such a system, because whatever Xfce
does will be picked up by the distributions and made widely available even
if no external projects show any interest at first.
