Not sure where you got that idea. I've been working very actively on it
for the past few months. It's an alternative for people who don't like
desktop icons, but still want xfdesktop's menus, or possibly want CDEish
window icons. It may or may not be the default after Thunar can draw
the desktop, but it's far from being "ready for disposal". I'll thank
you to leave decisions of obsoleteness up to the maintainer in the
future =p.

Indeed. 'xfmedia-remote -p -a dvd:/' should add the DVD to the playlist
of an already-running instance (or load one if there isn't one... I
think) and start playing. If this doesn't work, it's a bug.
