menu settings, backdrop list selection

I also have this behaviour, no mouse events seem to be used. Changing 
the options doesn't alter this.
Also, the icons were originally shown for me in the menu when called 
from the panel but after disabling and re-enabling them, they are now 
not shown no matter what the status of the option is. I've restarted it 
in between changing options, with no effect.
