This seems to be a problem with gaim (which uses libegg's systray icon
implementation). Several people reported problems with Gnome apps and
icon tray. But its interesting to see that this crashes the panel. I
have no gaim installed, but I'll install it after system update is
done. I tried to reproduce it with gnomeicu or drwright, but it works
well (atleast it does not crash anything).

I use xfce4 on mdk 9 at work, and it works very well.
