volume plugin

While I'm on the commentary spree...

As already outlined in 3 other emails to the list this evening, some
plugins don't adapt to the vertical (or horizontal) orientation. One of
them is the volume plugin. Or would be, if the its icon would be
removed, as suggested. With the icon, looks fine in vertical-mode panel.
Without it, it would look ugly (empty space around a single slider). In
such case, it would be good if it could be changed to a horizontal
slider, either automatically, or through a configuration option.
