So I'm sure you've set xfdeskemnu to the last line of your .xinitrc for
xfdeskmenu has to be quited in order to quit X. Try editing it to look like
this:
xfce-mcs-manager
xfwm4 --daemon
xfdesktop &
exec xfce4-panel
This will give you the oppertunity to end your X session with clicking the
Quit button on the xfce4 panel.

I don't think this is a basic functionality though I know how common
behaviours are open for changes and it might be not that difficult to
implent this again, won't it? Double clicking on the titlebar minimizing or
maximazing the window is possible.
