Gvfs never killed my green drives and never restarted them all the time.
Plus, if that bug was so widespread it would have been fixed long ago.
So please stop spreading misinformation and insuilting GVFS' developpers by 
saying that it is "broken software".  It is *way* off-topic and 
unconstructive.

To respond to the OP :
You might not have one of GVFS' backends : for instance gvfs-afc (on 
ubuntu/Debian it's gvfs-backends to install all of them).
