Yes, I do understand that. However I prefer to do a brand new install
when I feel that it is time. My current distro is Mint 10 KDE which is
no longer supported. At the same time I have decided to move away from
KDE since it seems to be too bloated for me. I have looked at several
desktop managers via VBox including Cinnamon and Mate. I already know
Xfce quite well, as the two laptops here (wife's and daughter's) are
using it.
So I have concentrated on Xfce for my recent researches. And I have
finally chosen Mint Maya Xfce as the way to go. Though I also like Xubuntu.
In the past I have had several different desktops set up on top of the
one kernel, as you mention, and have often chosen a different one at
each login. I have also tried dual booting with two different distros
installed.
The thing I like about Linux is the variety of choice available. This
time I have chosen to start from scratch with a brand new installation.
Next time, who knows?
Thanks
Neil
