Post scrip to "constantly resetting desktop management with XFCE "

Folks,

As a postscript to my previous post, I notice that as long as the
Desktop Settings window is open -- after checking off the manage-desktop
box -- I can, for example, right click on my mouse and get a menu
(which I can't when the DS window is closed). So is DS trying to write
settings to a file it can't find? If so, what is that file and where is
DS looking?
