Is there any output to console?  Perhaps a non-filesystem-charset
filename is being passed to the exo-desktop-item-edit.

Why can't you just file bug reports?  Xfce is worked on by a number of
different people, and it's very difficult to dig through parts of
different emails for bug reports.  I rarely get to look at things
immediately after reading them (I'm at work now, for instance), and it
really wastes my time to have to go hunting for emails later.
