I cannot get the shutdown and reboot options

Several times.  More:  the system has been shut down and re-started 
several times.  I fully expected to find a solution without asking, so I 
have been poking a stick at this for some time.

I may have to try fossicking again on the distro's forum.

Such a simple thing should not be so complicated.
