The keyboard shortcuts are all there.  <Ctrl> or <Alt>[a-z] but nothing 
says you have to use them.

Nonsense.  Although it can be integrated.

It has its own internal editor w/search-replace quite similar to gedit.

It's a bear to build, but slick and (for me) irreplaceable.   Old habits 
and all that :-)

But we digress...
