an Xfce solution for toolbar not showing text and icons in evolution

Hoping that someone on this list has solved the same problem as I face.
I have posted this on the evolution list, but answers seem limited to
having to fiddle settings applicable ONLY to running gnome. Since I run
Xfce4 as a far, far better WM I thought someone here might know :-)
Trying to set the toolbar in evolution to show icons AND text. I've
read the help, I've gone through gconf-editor with a fine-tooth
comb, I've gone through the settings, and I've googled on it. I just
can't find any reference to text AND icons in evo - unless running the
gnome WM. The gnome system-wide setting is under
"/desktop/interface/toolbar_style/both", but it has no effect on evo's
toolbar in Xfce4. FYI: another gnome app that I use, galeon, has a
specific setting in gconf to override the system settings and I can
change the toolbar at will. Also, evo that I run on one PC does have
text and icons, but it seems only because it inherited from earlier
versions installed on that PC.
In short, evolution has no specific settings to control the toolbar and
seems to rely on gnome system-wide settings, which don't work on my
Xfce4 system. Any pointers?
Gavin
