XFCE4: Issues with Gentoo

Off-topic here.  You'll want to talk to Gentoo people about resolving
the dependency 'breakage' and make sure you unmasked packages correctly.
(See the portage manpage, specifically /etc/portage/* references.)

Make sure you have the correct theme engines installed for the themes
you use, e.g. pixmap, industrial.  And missing icons... are you using
the standard Gnome icon theme?
