configuring xfce menu

Yet another thing that bothered me about xfce4 menu (and the xfce panel
as a whole really) is that configuring it in menu editor doesn't seem to
last for very long.
What I'm saying is that xfce4 menu falls back in the default state. When
I fire up menu editor again and look for the changes I made all seems
fine, only xfce menu doesn't seem to take any notion about those
changes, at all.
Is this known behaviour? And if so, how to fix it?
