configuring xfce menu

is this after initially editing the menu for the first time?  if so, it's
possible that it's watching the system-wide file for changes, when it
needs to notice that the user-specific file still exists.  this used to
be the case, but i recently had to redo the menu file search routine, so
i may have messed it up.  please file a bug on bugs.xfce.org.
