Fonts broken after upgrade

Hi Gang,

After an up2date run, XFce4 (4.0.3) can't display tooltips or dialog
boxes.  I see from Google that having two Pango libs installed can do
this, but it doesn't appear that I do.

I moved .xfce4 and Choices out of the way but same thing.  However, as
root, things are OK.  The console has a message complaining about
/etc/pango/modules and suggests running pango-querymodules-32 which I did,
but nothing changed... still no /etc/pango/modules.  /etc/pango is
writable by everyone.

Any ideas what broke?
