Safe to uninstall Gnome?

As said before, you don't need GNOME. But, you use one GNOME-ish
package, and you'll need parts. An example is Galeon and Evolution. To
get them to work you need control-center so mailto: and http: links are
handled correctly. That is usually the vital bit (above and beyond
gtk2).
In the end, I usually just install GNOME. It's good to have in those
rare cases when a GNOME app goes nuts and you just have to be in GNOME
to get it to work. And since I use Galeon, Evolution, and other
GNOME-based apps, it's worth the lost disk space.
