I always liked Konqueror as my file manager - let's me create views that
other FM's just can't/won't do - runs like a charm under XFCE4 - but
XFFM does have it's uses as well - depends on what ya want.

My machine is fairly "snappy" - so what performance issues are you
having? Could they be related to something else? Improper video drivers?
HD not tweaked and tuned?
