No sound with xfsound - ??

They are enabled, sound files have been defined for "destroy window" at
least, but clicking play produces nothin. One funny thing though: I
tried, out of desperation, to configure my sound card via hardrake.
After a run of that, suddenly the sound was on! However, it is my
experience that it doesn't last after a reboot.... Can that be a clue?
