keyboard configuration

Hello,

I am using XFCE 3.8.16 on a RH7.2 box. At the same time 
Gnome and KDE are installed with a properly configured 
keyboard (German).
If I switch to XFCE some keys don't work as expected, i.e. I 
can not have a @ char. When striking right meta and @ keys 
nothing happens, despite my keyboard configuration works 
well in Gnome and KDE.
I did not find any hint how to manage this either in mail 
archive nor in the shipped documentation.
Could somebody tell me how to deal with this !
