As I was upgrading my laptop from freeBSD 4.5 to freeBSD 4.6 with high
hopes that gtk2 was officially part of 4.6 (no such luck) I ran into
some trouble and had to go to the freeBSD handbook at www.freebsd.org. I
don't usually read documentation because I tend to wander off, and this
time I ended up in the "Desktop Environments". And there was a
description of GNOME and how to install it. Then one for KDE and how to
install it. And finally, with just about the same length for description
and how to install it, was XFCE.
