Backdrops in .xpm format

Hmmmm.... :

kassiopeia:/home/kristian# dpkg -l | grep xfce
ii  xfce           3.8.16-3       The Cholesterol Free Desktop Environment
ii  xfce-common    3.8.16-3       architecture-independent files for Xfce

kristian at kassiopeia $ cat .xfce/xfbdrc 
/usr/share/xfce/backdrops/Metal-blue.jpg
auto

Debian SID is installed from ISO-Images made on July 18, 2002, XFCE version is
same as yours, and I am not at all having problems using jpeg files as
backdrops so chances are that this ain't a problem with the XFCE version in
Debian.
