Does GKrellm do this? Even if it doesn't, it has many of the features
of the various gnome and kde applets built in. If I were you I'd check
it out. It works very well with XFce.

Be sure to glance through the provided docs. Olivier has built a very
comprehensive user manual (the far right "i" icon.)
