why not something like

gchar *continents[] = {
	N_("Asia"),
	N_("Africa),
};

and then 

gchar *cities[] = {
	N_("Abidjan"),
};

and finally build the timezones with a simple for and a g_strdup_printf,
to avoid many translations of a same word ?
