Yes, you are making sense. Programming in Python for rapid prototyping 
is a good idea. I wouldn't, however, go much farther than creating the 
look and feel of the application. Anything beyond UI (say, sophisticated 
preview capabilities) is better done in C.

But that's just my opinion. ;)
