Well, people will do that if the future of a project is uncertain... There was
an offer by someone to help out by coding in Python. This is a great offer,
even if I think it is not the way to go. If someone takes the lead in coding,
discussions like this will not happen.

Don't expect people to be able to read your mind. Explain what you want to do,
explain what you mean by 'serious development attempts' and you may save the
project from forking. If you're not interested in doing this communication, a
fork will probably be inevitable. I hope it can be prevented though.
