Just to clarify the idea: if we're talking about a thumbnail view, then
we probably want a toggle button for it, right?  The toggle could be in
any number of places, but that's sort of irrelevant to the idea apart
from implementation.  The toggle would work exactly as you think it
would, but if you want the thumbnail view permanent for a folder, you
just drag the button to the main view (where all your pictures, as it
may be, are), and it shows up like a file. Were it implemented, it would
be a bad idea to make it an actual file.  It should behave like a file
to the user, but just be a little line in ~/.thunar/views.txt or
something.  To get rid of the saved view, just delete the "file" and
you're on your way.
