Xfce themes

Hi,

I +1 the promotion of Greybird as the default upstream theme for 4.14, and ensure/guarantee Xfce components look correct with it.
Of course, it's only the default theme, packagers/users can use whatever theme they want in their distributions :)

Hi guys,
I would like to bring to your attention about the current theming situation of Xfce.

Since long ago Xfce used to provide themes (gtk-xfce-engine), however due the gtk3 migration and the lack of manpower to port those themes, they have been archived and won't be part of Xfce 4.14.
I have no hard feelings about them, they were a bit dated, perhaps someday someone ports those themes.

My concern is what should be our stance when people, specially packagers, ask us which theme should be Xfce's default.
The obvious choice is Adwaita since it is gtk's default theme anyway, but not only that, it is also Gnome's default.
In that case, Xfce's appearance would resemble a lot Gnome's, nothing against it, but we would lost our own visual identity.

My proposal is to adopt a well maintained theme which remarkably supports Xfce, in this case the obvious choice is Greybird. I asked Simon (ochosi) and he is fine with this idea.

What are the implications to promote Greybird as the official theme?
1. We should ensure/guarantee Xfce components look correct with it.
1.1 We also need to make sure everything looks fine with Adwaita.
1.2 No strict guarantee for other themes.
2. It's up to shimmer authors to move to Xfce infra or not.
3. IMHO it is easier to introduce tweaks for Xfce in Greybird than Adwaita.
4. Recommend Greybird to packagers, but it is ultimately their call to use it, Adwaita or any other theme.
Cheers,
Andre Miranda
