Igor, I don't have enough knowledge to comment on your work (although it 
does seem very reasonable) but, while you are at it, do you have any 
opinions on how IM integration should be done?

Currently, I have an ibus-daemon running, which intercepts some 
combinations of keys and displays an icon in the systray. If I add the 
xkb plugin to the panel I end up two ways of changing keyboard behavior. 
Do you think we can do better than that?
