Text orientation in vertical panels

This might be a crazy idea at first but... should we layout the vertical 
panel (in "normal" mode) in such a way that the app menu is at the 
bottom and clock at the top? Sort of taking the horizontal panel and 
rotating it 90 degrees to the left?

For those who prefer reading top to bottom the deskbar mode seems like a 
better choice anyway.
