Gtk2 is still supported, but no new features will be added. And a
toolkit is something else then code that provides a bridge between the
kernel and the desktop; hal workes fine on freebsd (because it's not
moving forward either <-- poke). But not on linux, at least not with
the features like remote filesystems and security linux distributions
care about.
