I have to agree with nick here, even if i'm the OpenBSD maintainer.

Instead of complaining, we should join forces and bring the discussion to
udev developers so that they help _us_ making it portable, as now more
and more things rely on it. Afaik, udev is the only missing piece, as on
FreeBSD you already have upower.
