I just figured I could provide support for this at some level. Not
sure about it and not a fan either, but if a lot of people see a
problem here I could add limited support (not rgba, arguments support,
remote editing) for the old external plugins. I will provide patches
that can be used by users/distros for the plugins that don't make the
switch when 4.8 is released.
