xfce4-mailwatch crashes

Dear all,
I am using xfce4-mailwatch via IMAP, and I have a history of (random,
with no obvious cause) crashes with associated loss of configuration
data. Hence two questions:
- Is there an easy way to debug the plugin (obtain a trace, or smth),
considering that the crashes happen at random?
- Where does it store the configuration info? Would it be possible to
make a backup and restore the file after the plugin crashes and I put
it back on the panel?
