Whatever happened to: "Merging Task List + System Tray + Program Launcher applets"?

Dear Xfce-devs,

About 2 years ago, there was some discussion on and of this list about a
revolutionary new way to merge the Task List + System Tray + Program
Launcher applets.

I really liked the idea and was hoping this could be part of Xfce in the
future, but I never heard about it again.

Is someone/Xfce still interested in this idea and willing to develop it?
IMHO this could be a feature that really would add some "glamour" to Xfce
