Yeah, that's definitely possible.  I'm also thinking that, with a 
suitable 'xdt-i18n' wrapper script, things might even be *easier*.  For 
example, they could just run a command from their source tree, and git 
would automatically make a patch and email it to xfce-i18n.  For 
translators with commit access, it could work similarly, but without the 
email step.
