It looks like an interesting idea, although I'd personally rather just
show more files in the space that it takes. I don't use my file manager to check information about files enough to have it persistently taking up space at the bottom of the window; I already know everything about the file that I want to open in the common case. (And if not, I'm still using my patch that Benny rejected which lets the "properties" window show the props of the most recently selected file.)

Hopefully if it lands, it will be easy to disable.
