Panel plugins have a fixed size in trunk

Much better now. The last days I used the old panel code because the
missing symbols(especially for pidgin) were too annoying.
But now, some things doesn't look nice anymore and some others need
fixing like the orage clock(see attached image).
And I have some space(see attached image, between xmms-plugin and
pidgin) in the systray. I have no idea which causes this space. Any
ideas?
