Can someone please tell me why we need xfdm? I've been following the
thread a bit but I believe in not re-inventing the wheel so obviously
I'm missing something here?
What will us having an xfdm do for us outside of having another
package to maintain? I'm thinking we're trying to break the ties with
Gnome?

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think "I know, I'll use Windows."
Now they have two problems.
