I agree, and I do not want to persuade anyone into working on something
I'd like to see, let alone something they would not like to do.
I just expressed my opinion, which I still hold that working together
with others has a better chance of getting ready for prime time, than
going the from scratch route.

And yes, it is nice that Giuseppe, Stephan and Peter are working on
tools for Xfce, but the fact is these tools are not good enough yet. The
fun factor tends to keep projects 95% ready and the boring 5% (or
whatever) for usability and stability never getting done in most cases.
What good it is if the app is designed modular and optimized for speed
if it confuses the user or crashes? The fact itself that there are two
competing archivers (never mind there was an xarchive project as well)
is a bit disturbing.

Again, not saying what others should work on, just expressing my
frustration this time as an Xfce user.

Nothing wrong with it IMHO, a healthy and very fair worldview :)

no less == more and sometimes more is less :) User confusion, time
wasted on evaluating similar-but-not-quite solutions on which a lot more
effort was expended than if the devs had put their heads together and
their egos aside and had collaborated. Oh, I forgot to mention the
dozens media players each with a loyal following but none quite good
enough for everyone ;) Sorry for nesting my little rant in your soapbox
section :)
