slow ARGB window painting

Hey Olivier,

Noticed something interesting/annoying.  With the composite extension
enabled, but with *no* compositor running, ARGB windows are very "slow".
 When they are first drawn, I can actually see it being drawn from top
to bottom.  When I drag the window around, it's very jerky and slow.
Non-ARGB windows don't seem to have this problem.  I just noticed
because I updated Terminal to latest svn, so now it's using the builtin
vte transparency.   Dragging around windows from the "old" instance of
Terminal is still snappy.  Setting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 before
running Terminal also gives good performance.  Is this something
WM-related, or is it just the X server?
