aumix is a bsd command, so it's more portable than amix or amixer.

And aumix can drive alsa with alsa-oss. So aumix is preferable I think.

All in all, it's just a default theme, people who prefer amix can easily
change it to whatever suit their needs. Take it as an example, just an
example (that happen to work for me, but that's pure coincidence)
