  I have a keycode defined inside .Xmodmap, and I don't run xmodmap in
any script.  I guess it is a default file that X reads.

  But to get back to the "to work with the mixer", I have seen on GNOME
key-bindings for the volume which shows a little widget...  That's
actually the only interesting thing in it.  aumux can control the
volume, so can Xfce when key shortcuts are defined to it ;)
