If you can reproduce the problem, please run the panel from gdb and open
a bug report with the backtrace.
Open a terminal, type: gdb xfce4-panel
$ gdb xfce4-panel
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/local/bin/xfce4-panel
[...]
Once it crashes, type "bt" to generate the backtrace from gdb and
copy/paste the result to the bug report.
