Oh well.  If that's the case, you'd probably be more useful just telling
us what you think is more usable, without worrying about implementation.

IIRC, we've been meaning to overhaul/replace the configuration system
for a while.  For 4.6 it may actually get done, so don't limit yourself
to how MCS works when thinking about improvements.
