file selector widget

Good day all,

I was wondering if there is a way to circumvent the gtk file selector 
widget or to allow for manual path selection. From time to time it takes 
a lot of clicking to get to a file and it would be handy if you could 
either type the path or do a locate in a shel and copy and past the path 
in the file selector. I don't know if the gtk file selector widget 
allows this ?
