Programs crash when changing orientation of xfce4-panel

Well, it's not "maybe", it's sure. I bet you have the panel sets as full
width/height. When changing orientation, the panel sets its struts as
wide as the screen, causing maximized windows to be resized to 0.

I've added paranoid checks to the WM so that it should not happen again.

I'm not annoyed at all. The thing is, a lot of things can be "fixed" in
the WM and hide the real problems. In the end, you end up with a WM
that's full of workarounds for all kind of apps.

The problem here lies in the panel, but xfwm4 could/should prevent the
broken size. Let's say I've done my homework and improved the WM so that
it filters out the broken struts set by the panel, but the panel should
be fixed, if not done yet (as I believe it might be in SVN, as said in
the bug report).
